Hay scented fern is a common northeast native deciduous perennial.  It is an excellent groundcover for native gardens as it tolerates more sun and slightly drier conditions than many ferns.  Along woodland edges, slopes, and in partially shaded, moist areas, it can pleasantly spread by rhizomes to suppress weeds and prevent erosion.
